Overview

Waterland is an exhibition by Asialink Exchange Artist in Residence Yenting Hsu (Taiwan), running from 4-17 May, that explores our connection to the ocean and how people respond to their surroundings.

The gallery will transform as Hsu brings the sand and sounds of the beach to FAC, inviting participants to build sandcastles in the space from 4–10 May while a multi-channel sound installation plays.

Hsu also shares sounds of her homeland in the exhibition with sound installations Timeless Rain, featuring recordings of Typhoon Morakot, the deadliest typhoon to hit Taiwan in recorded history, and Sounds Delicious, an investigation into how food is produced in the Cheng Long Wetlands, Taiwan.

Events will also include an artist talk and performance on 12 May, with musician Chris Cobilis and an interactive listening session on 16 May where participants are invited to experience Taiwanese culture through sound.
