The Made Local Market is back at Stackwood! This edition of the market will focus on local makers and will host more than 25 stalls selling locally made wares such as ceramic planters, artist prints, clothing, textiles and jewellery. The market will host food trucks serving up winter eats. Reimagining our relationship with dementia

Have you or your partner been diagnosed with dementia? This is a huge adjustment that can feel very challenging. Take some time out to relax, have a laugh, reconnect and rediscover each other. Feel the essence of your relationship. Get to know fellow group members over a cuppa. Give life a dance. Suitable for couples, or family members or friends and their loved ones in the early or mid stages of dementia. Free thanks to City of Fremantle. She has completed over 100 hours of training in dementia care and compassionate communication, including the Spark of Life practitioner course and Dance for PD workshops. Plus over 100 hours in professional behaviour change and group learning and facilitation training, with years of experience in these fields. Emma says: "My vision is to provide creative and nurturing spaces for people with Dementia and their Carers to connect and enjoy life." Building on two decades of personal development, yoga and meditation practice, Emma receives inspiration from Open Floor Dance and Tamalpa Art Life Institute teachers. She works closely with Wu Tao founder Michelle Locke, who developed a dementia specific Wu Tao offering in collaboration with DBMAS (the Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service).

Make Your Own Ceramic Mugs with Sarana Haeata

Learn to hand build and glaze your very own ceramic mugs with artist Sarana Haeata across two-weekend sessions. In the first session, students will learn a slab technique to create the unique shape of their mugs. By the end of this session each student will have at least four cups ready for firing. In the second session, Sarana will guide the group through glazing techniques that will best achieve each participant’s individual design. Leeuwin New Years Eve Sail

Ring in the new year aboard Western Australia's own tall ship, the STS Leeuwin II. We invite those of all ages can join in the activities, no sailing experience is required however we are an active sailing ship, so a low level of fitness is good to have. Help our crew haul the lines, take the helm and why not try some climbing aloft? If you just want to enjoy the Fremantle coastline from the unique vantage point of the ocean, that’s okay too!  The sail includes light refreshments on board served with tea and coffee. #MyFreoStory is your Freo story

We all have a Freo story. From the locals raised in the port city, to the live music lovers or Sunday brunch devotees on the strip, locals and visitors alike have a story to share about Freo. And so #MyFreoStory video competition was born. In early 2016, the #MyFreoStory competition was launched to encourage people to tell their own Freo story, with 40 very unique and heartfelt videos submitted. This included a day in the life of local Freo dog, following a unicyclist’s journey around town to the home of WA Circus, watching a time-lapse artist weave a large red basket around themselves in prominent Fremantle landmarks and Freo-inspired sea shanty “Fremantle, The Pride of WA”.  After much deliberation, 9 entries were shortlisted to determine the overall winner, Shakey’s Story. The first #MyFreoStory winning entry by Oliver Oldroyd and Stevie James Smith depicted the moving true story of a local artist and his strong connection to the Freo art scene and local music legend Bon Scott. We asked the producer Oliver Oldroyd what motivated him and his cousin to enter “We love living here in Freo. There's such a good creative vibe and it's great to be part of it. We love making films and it was also important for us to get Shakey’s name out there and get him recognised for the talented artist he is.” Another entry by a 16 year old student from Perth Modern School, Radheya Jegatheva was “My Journey Through Freo”, voted on the youtube.com/fremantlestory as the best film in our people’s choice category. This young film maker gave us a view of all the things he loves in Freo by filming on his mum’s iPhone. We asked Radheya what motivated him to enter “A bit of everything to be honest, but one of the main messages that I wanted to convey through my video was that Freo is a city that can cater for all sorts of people of all ages - and that there was so much to do and so much to see.” After viewing all of last year’s great films we couldn’t get enough, so in late March we launched the second 2017 #MyFreoStory video competition and are waiting in anticipation for the new stories. Army Museum of Western Australia
