Overview

Liquid Aura is a floating neon light installation that will temporarily occupy the eastern façade of St Johns Church in Kings Square, Fremantle.

Seven glowing neon rings appear to protrude through the windows of the Church. A play of perception, the artwork cleverly aligns mirrors to create an illusion of light projecting through the windows. This mirrored effect will create the illusion of an illuminated floating rainbow corona.

Primarily influenced by natural phenomenon experienced by Brophy as he surfed and swam on the Indian Ocean Liquid Aura describes a moment of ephemeral harmony, light and motion.

Brophy’s intervention of this heritage-listed building attempts to describe the energy of Fremantle as a meeting point of culture. Significantly the artwork has been embraced by the Church as a contemporary artwork that the community will appreciate.
